I think there were even fewer quilts at the Benton/Franklin county fair this year. I swear there are more quilts exhibited in our little county down in Oregon. No, I'm not bragging, there really are more quilts here. But I still managed to photograph my favorites to share!
This is a crocheted blanket, the creator worked from a painting, recreating the image. Pretty neat. This is a lap-sized crochet blanket, probably 50" by 60".
I wouldn't say the dinosaurs were really a favorite,
but I think the completed quilt is a good example of asking someone what
they want, and then personalizing the finished quilt. What little boy
wouldn't like a dinosaur quilt?? And I bet that center image was
difficult to find--or would have been before the internet. Yay for the
internet! The log cabin blocks have a very Fred Flintstone feel.
This Labrador would have been a tiny bit more successful if she had used a contrasting color for the highlights or shadows. It still works, but it would have been more dramatic to step outside of grades of brown.
I just loved the embroidered flowers. I haven't seen that pattern for sale. The whole design is so feminine, don't you think?
I liked the embroidered farm on this one, and the use of black and white. White will either be hard to keep clean, or it will yellow as it ages, so I don't know if I'd go with white. Because of course this quilt will be handed down to the next generation!
The note says the quilter was given a postcard with an image of a
quilt, and she endeavored to recreate that image. There must be more to
the story, don't you think? Are there memories from the postcard, or
memories from an even earlier quilt that looked like the postcard? I
don't know, I just like to imagine.
I always love a red/white/blue quilt. The blues are really navy and not as dark as my photo appears.
And I leave you with a little girl who kept following me around the fair. Her and her pony. Kind of was giving me the creeps, you know?
