I gathered up scraps, cut out 3" squares, and made a child-sized tote. I had intended to make an adult-sized tote, but found out too late I needed the design to be 5 squares across instead of 4 (I did make another one later).
I reinforced the heck out of the stitching where the handles connect to the bag, as this is the most likely place for the design to fail. I used at least 7 rows of stitching so it's held really firmly. The top is held closed by a bow tie. I love using those bobbles, I got about 8 yards while thrifting and it helps keep my prices low! It's the design elements that raise the overall costs of these things--the zippers, the D-rings, any embellishments. But it's also the design elements that take these things from "Oh, you bought that at a craft table?" to "Wow, that looks like a boutique item!"
