soup toureen pot holder

Does anyone use a soup toureen anymore? I can't imagine everyone dishing from a big pot, you can't pass it around, and the soup would slosh onto the table cloth as kids try to ladle a bit out. Hmm.

I love this figure though, and I think I've embroidered him into 3 or 4 potholders so far.
